What attracted you to dentistry?

I was not accepted into medical school. I had really wanted to be a physician, and dentistry was a second choice only after discussion with my father. But every day now for 28 years, I know that I made the right decision.

Are there similarities and qualities shared between the two?

Without a doubt, the empathy, the desire to help other people, knowing the right words to say to a patient in any scenario – these come from the same place for all doctors, dentists, and really– any healthcare professional, I believe.

What led you to focus on orthodontics within your general practice?

Orthodontic technologies are evolving all the time, and I find them fascinating. As the oral health of the overall population has really improved, people are now looking for ways to have their teeth straightened, a better-looking smile, and so on – instead of just repairing worn teeth, and fixing gums. It’s so much more fun working on smiles than doing root canals. And patients see and appreciate the results – this is how I can offer my best to them. It’s the smartest decision I’ve made in my professional career.

How did you get into teaching?

After I completed my ortho training, a teacher of mine asked me to speak in front of his class. I loved it, and he gave me more and more opportunities for lecturing. I’ve now been teaching ortho in Montreal for 21 years. Teaching the subject of my passion and my practice – I’ve been having the most fun ever.

Has partnering with Dentalcorp been a good decision?

It really has. When I first started talking to Dentalcorp, I had a close friend– an accountant, join the discussion. He was very positive about the financial side of what Dentalcorp brought to the table. And I like that Dentalcorp understands that a proper life-work balance is crucial for my career, my mental well-being, and my effectiveness as a practitioner.

And for those who are thinking about Dentalcorp…?

I say to have fun and be fulfilled in dentistry – start by offloading anything which gets in the way of your passion, such as the administrative work of running a practice. So, be open to really considering Dentalcorp – they will help you do what you love, by taking care of the things you don’t.
